Indications
Chin surgery is the surgery to correct the size and projection of the chin. The purpose of the operation is to harmonize the proportions and profile of the person, which will enhance the self-confidence of the person concerned. Many times a small hypoplastic chin can alter the image of a person and with normal nose, making it appear larger or altering the profile, giving the impression of having a double chin. Chin surgery is often combined with rhinoplasty to harmonize the facial profile (profiloplasty), such as in cases where we have a large curved nose with a small jaw. Therefore with chin surgery either the size and visibility of the chin is increased (augmentation of chin) or decreased (reduction chin surgery).
Surgical technique
Surgery is usually performed through an incision in the oral cavity at the height of the lower jaw or a small incision under the chin. When we want to increase the size of the chin, solid silicone inserts of various sizes are used, depending on the size we want to give the chin. When we want to reduce the size of the chin, then we either do osteotomy if the problem is big, or we rasp the bone if the problem is small. Also, when we want to increase the size of the chin, we can also use injectable materials (eg hyaluronic acid, hydroxyapatite) in the office, so the effect lasts 1-2 years.
Type of anesthesia
Chin surgery is a procedure performed by sedation in combination with local anesthesia and always in an organized clinic.
Operation Time
The duration of surgery is approximately 1 hour.
Stay at the clinic
Chin surgery usually does not require a stay in the clinic. Usually the patient can leave within 3-4 hours after surgery.
Postoperative period
Postoperatively, a light elastic bandage is applied for 5-7 days. It is advisable to place cold compresses in the area for the first two 24 hours and to avoid eating hard food for 7-10 days. There may be edema and swelling in the area that will subside in the coming days.
Back to daily activities
We recommend patients to return to their daily activities very soon after surgery. You can return to work in 3-4 days.
Results
Patients will see the effects of free radical surgery almost immediately. But the final picture will be around after 2-3 weeks, when the edema and the swelling have subsided. The results are permanent and the facial profile improvement is impressive!
